Dear LANGUAGE ASISSTANT,
First of all, we would like to welcome you to our school IES Acebuche in Torredonjimeno, Jaén (SPAIN). You will be our assistant teacher for the forthcoming school year and we are so happy that you will be joining our staff.
We would like to know when you are arriving in Spain so we can arrange everything to ease your adaptation here. We will be providing all the necessary help for you to find proper accommodation and everything you could need to make your stay here as pleasant as possible. All the teachers in our school are very excited to have you here with us and everybody is eager to help you with everything you need.
Our school is located in the town of Torredonjimeno. It has 14,000 inhabitants, which is a medium-sized town for Spanish standards. It is just 15 kilometres away from the capital city of our province, Jaén, where most of our staff lives. Jaén is a 120,000 inhabitant city with all the services one could need: cinemas, malls, stores, sports facilities, university, green areas, plenty of bars, restaurants, cultural and leisure events … You’ll be able to choose between living in our town or in the city of Jáen, upon your wishes.
Torredonjimeno has a very convenient location, as it is just 1 hour away from the cities of Córdoba and Granada. Both cities are in UNESCO’s World Heritage list; they are very popular among tourists from all over the world. The beach is only 90 minutes away and we have 2 international airports very close by: the one in Granada just 60 minutes away and the bigger one in Málaga less than 2 hours away, with flights to all of Europe and many other places around the world. Madrid, the capital city of Spain, is just 3 hours away.
We would beg you to bring some authentic material about your country, your area or even you and your hobbies so that it could be used as complementary material in your lessons. That includes photos, leaflets, posters, videos, all of this within your possibilities.
To finish, it would be important to us to have confirmation of your estimated arrival date as soon as possible so that we can start organising our lesson plans and start making arrangements about your school schedule and accommodation needs. This e-mail back from you would be enough for us. Another fact that we think you would like to know is that there is another High School just next to ours in Torredonjimeno and there will probably be another teaching assistant working there, so maybe you can share accommodation with her/him and help each other.
You don’t need to be anxious or worried because we will help you deal with any problem than could arise and will guide you through all your work here in our school.
