SCHOOL YEAR 2020/2021

Clara has already arrived in Torredonjimeno and, today, she's going to introduce herself to all of us.

Welcome Clara! We all hope your stay in Acebuche school is a great one!

Hello, my name is Clara Maddison, I am from California and I will be the teaching assistant at I.E.S. Acebuche for the next four months. My family lives in northern California in a small town named Forestville, two hours north of San Francisco. That part of California grows grapes for wine and has a big farming community. While I was growing up, I raised chickens and market lambs for ten years with 4-H, an agricultural organization in our community. The organization is structured so that younger children learn from older children how to take care of their animals. 4-H and its counterpart FFA, Future Farmers of America, are both well-known and fundamental to our Sonoma County community.

I went to college at California State Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo and graduated with my major in English and two minors in Spanish and Economics. I love to read and write, and I believe being an English major helped me view the world differently. During my time in college, I was in the organization Student Community Services and involved with planning environmental events.

I have a small immediate family and a big extended family. My mom is a veterinarian, so we always have had lots of dogs and cats, and my dad is a handyman. I am an only child, but my extended family includes lots of aunts, uncles, and cousins spread across the United States. The pictures below are of my Mom, Barbara and my Dad, Bob.

I have had a variety of jobs. I have worked in bakeries, been a bike mechanic, and even spent a summer as an Alaskan fishing boat deckhand. I have also taught swim lessons, worked as a marketing intern for a non-profit in San Luis Obispo, and been a teaching assistant for an English class at my university. These experiences truly have taught me how important it is for students to learn multiple languages and about different cultures. I began learning Spanish in high school, and I wish that I had started a lot earlier.

This is my first time in Spain, and I am happy to be here. I have never traveled to Europe before, and I am very grateful that I was able to come despite all the problems with Covid-19. I hope that you will feel free to talk to me and ask me questions. If you aren’t sure what to ask me, some more information about me is that I love being outdoors, especially for hiking and camping. I am passionate about environmental protection and want my career to focus on that field. I love reading, have many favorite books, and because of my mom being a veterinarian my family has had many interesting and unusual pets over the years. The final pictures are of my family, our dog Stanley, my friend and I at Lassen National Park this summer, and a friend I found tide pooling on the California Coast.

SCHOOL YEAR 2019/2020

Hello! My name is Elisha and I am 22 years old. I am from Leeds, which is a city in the north of the United Kingdom, not too far away from Manchester. In England I live with my boyfriend named Jack, who I met at school.

I am currently a student at the University of Leeds where I study Spanish. When I’m not studying, I like to swim, spend time with my friends and watch my favorite tv series Keeping up with the Kardashians.

Here is a picture of me and my siblings, I have one brother, one sister and one half sister.

In 2017 I travelled to Shanghai to study Chinese for a year. Whilst in China, I visited the great wall of China, Tiananmen square in Beijing and lots of places in Shanghai. Overall, it was very difficult at times to communicate and adapt to their culture, but it was the most amazing experience.

SCHOOL YEAR 2018/2019

Hey There!

My name is Angelica Padilla. Right now, I´m 27 years old.  However, my birthday is November 29th.  So, I will be 28 years old in one month.  My favorite color is green, blue, orange, and pink.  I like to dance, read, hike with my dog, sleep, and eat.

I am from The United States of America. 🇺🇸  More specifically, I am from the state New Mexico. New Mexico is a state in the United States southwest region. We border Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Oklahoma, and Texas. We are the only place in the United States to border 4 states at once.  You can visit the top left corner of my state and be in 4 places at once!
  • New Mexico was founded by Spanish Conquistadores in 1598 they called the newly discovered land, New Spain. 🇪🇸
  •    In 1821, we became a part of the Mexican territory and our name changed to New Mexico. 🇲🇽
  • We became an official state of the United States in 1912 but we never changed our name. 🇺🇸

I was born and raised in a city named Santa Fe.  Santa Fe is the Capital City of New Mexico.  My family lives there and I will always call Santa Fe my home.

The Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Asisi during Christmas.

The full moon shines and rises over the mountains.
Deer is a common occurrence in the backyards of some homes.
Every first week of September, we celebrate the Santa Fe Fiestas. We start off Fiestas with The Burning of Zozobra. Zozobra is a 28 meter (93 feet) puppet.  We stuff the puppet with our year´s gloom (divorce papers, speeding tickets, etc) and we burn it and hope to start anew for the year.

My parents still live there. Here is a picture of my family and my dog. My dog's name is Penny. I miss her very much. I have two sisters. My older sister's name is Anita and my younger sister's name is Andrea. I have a fiancée named Andrew. He actually asked me to marry him in the Rioja region of Spain last summer.

I went to the University of New Mexico which is located in Albuquerque. It's about a 98 kilometer (60 mile) drive south of Santa Fe. If New Mexico skies don't have sunsets that make the sky look like it's on fire, than it's filled with hot air balloons of different special shapes.

In 2015 I lived in Chile and taught English in a municipal school. Chile was incredible!
